2. A house of straw The first pig tied the straw into walls and spread a thatched roof on top. Before the sun was high, the little house was ready. “A door for me and a window for the breeze!” said the pig, peeping out.
The sage-clothed wooden pig presses a thatched roof section into place from a wooden platform, climbs down and walks through the doorway. Its face appears through an open window with a rounded wooden frame.
3. A house of sticks The second pig fitted sticks together, one beside another. Tap, tap went the hammer. By afternoon, a wooden roof shaded the doorway. The first pig waved from across the meadow. Now there were two little houses beside the path.
The coral-clothed second pig taps the stick cottage twice with a small hammer, then lowers the tool beside the finished house. The first pig raises a hand, waves gently and lowers its arm.
4. A house of bricks The third pig laid bricks in careful rows. Slowly, strong walls rose around a sturdy door. The other two pigs came to look. “There is room for all three of us!” they said.
Three wooden pigs gather at a coral brick cottage. The third pig reaches for the door handle, opens the door, and steps aside as the others look on.
5. A huff and a puff One day, a wolf knocked at the straw house. “Open the door!” “No, thank you!” called the pig. The wolf took a great breath and blew. Straw whirled, and the pig ran safely toward the house of sticks.
A toy wolf blows toward the straw cottage. The first pig turns right and runs behind a carved wooden shrub as the straw tumbles onto the meadow.
6. Two pigs on the path The wolf followed and knocked again. “Open the door!” “No, thank you!” called two voices. He huffed. He puffed. The sticks rattled, then tumbled down. The two pigs slipped out together and hurried to the brick house, where the third pig opened the door.
A toy wolf blows toward the stick cottage as its walls tumble. The first pig leads and the second follows along a sage wooden path to the coral brick cottage, where the blue-clothed third pig opens the blue door and welcomes them at the doorway.
7. Still standing Now the wolf stood before the brick house. He filled his chest with air and blew until the leaves danced across the meadow. Inside, three pigs held hands. The door stayed shut. The roof stayed on. Every brick stayed exactly where it belonged.
Three wooden pigs join hands inside the cutaway brick cottage. They stay together while the wolf blows toward the closed door. The door gives a small shiver while the roof and brick walls stay in place.
8. A quiet morning At last, the tired wolf sat down. He caught his breath, shook the straw from his ears, and trotted away into the woods. The pigs slept soundly. Next morning, the door swung open. One by one, the three little pigs stepped out into the sunshine. Together, they opened the garden gate. There were two new houses to plan, and three pigs to help.
The toy wolf sits outside the brick cottage, catches his breath, shakes his ears and leaves for the woods. A wooden moon marks the quiet night. At sunrise, the three pigs come through the cottage door and open their garden gate. The coral-clothed pig lifts a brick from a low workbench and places it beside a little house frame while the other two pigs watch.
